GitHub's Copilot SDK reaches general availability for building custom AI agents
GitHub has moved its Copilot SDK out of preview and into general availability, giving developers a stable, production-ready way to embed Copilot's agentic engine directly into their own apps, services and tools. The SDK adds support for a broader range of programming languages, custom tool integrations, the Model Context Protocol, built-in tracing, flexible authentication options and cloud-based sessions designed for multi-client workflows. The release arrives alongside other GitHub updates, including an Agents window now in stable preview inside VS Code, expanded support for bringing your own model keys, and integrated browser tooling — part of a broader shift across the GitHub ecosystem toward agent-driven development rather than traditional single-prompt coding assistants.
