Nvidia has selected Chinese robotics maker Unitree to supply the humanoid platform behind the chipmaker's first commercial robotics research system, marking an unusual collaboration between an American semiconductor giant and a fast-growing Chinese hardware startup. The system is built around an upgraded version of Unitree's H2 humanoid, dubbed the H2 Plus, and is expected to ship to research institutions in October, with early adopters reportedly including Stanford's robotics center, ETH Zurich, the AI research nonprofit Ai2, and UC San Diego's Advanced Robotics and Controls Laboratory. Nvidia has positioned the partnership as part of its broader Isaac robotics platform strategy, which aims to give university and corporate labs a standardized, well-supported hardware base so they can focus on software, perception and control research rather than building robots from scratch. For Unitree, the deal is a significant credibility boost as the company reportedly works toward an initial public offering, lending it the kind of high-profile Western validation that has been harder for Chinese hardware makers to secure amid ongoing trade and technology tensions. Analysts say the agreement also reflects how central humanoid robotics has become to Nvidia's long-term roadmap, with the company increasingly framing physical, embodied AI as the next major growth frontier for its chips and software stack.
